Overview
A project to simplify personal finance
Finanfox is a mobile app designed to simplify personal finance management. As the Product Designer, I led the design process end to end, shaping an experience that is intuitive, functional, and visually clear. A lightweight design system and a user-centered approach helped keep the UI consistent and the workflows easy to use.
THE PROBLEM
Before Finanfox: too much complexity
Before Finanfox, users struggled to manage their finances on mobile due to: · Fragmented and hard-to-interpret information · Flows that felt complex and led to drop-off · Limited personalization for different goals and investing styles Goal: Turn a complex experience into something simple, clear, and efficient.
DESIGN PROCESS
User-centered research
Understand user needs and the client’s expectations.
Key actions: · User interviews/surveys to identify frustrations and goals · Competitive scan to learn common patterns in finance apps Key insights: · Users wanted quick access to key metrics · They valued clear, attractive visualizations · They needed customization to match personal goals
Optimized flows
1. Net worth: A snapshot of assets and growth over time 2. Transactions: Income/expenses, categories, and filters 3. Opportunities: Personalized investing recommendations 4. Community: News, webinars, and forums
Iterative visual design
· Built on a lightweight design system to speed up delivery and keep UI consistent · Iterated using feedback from users and stakeholders · Improved information hierarchy to make data easier to scan ·Designed visualizations that feel clear and trustworthy · Added simple interactions to guide users through each flow
RESULTS
Tangible impact for users and stakeholders
· Early retention improved after launch (signal based on usage + feedback) · Strong store rating during the first release window · Positive qualitative feedback highlighted clarity and ease of use
LESSONS LEARNED
Key takeaways
1. Data visualization: In finance, clarity matters as much as detail. 2. Design systems: A solid UI foundation speeds up iteration and keeps the product consistent. 3. Attention to detail: Small interaction tweaks can have a big impact on perceived quality.
I enjoy building finance products where trust, clarity, and usability matter. This project reinforced how much impact good hierarchy and systems can have in everyday decision-making.
